Steady doping by means of sound tricks and effects helped to conjure from the ruins of the "golden era of rock'n'roll" a rhythm-backed high-decibel stream, and unleahed a merciless onslaught on other previous ingredients of pop music. The melody was forced into bashful retirement by the cannonade of percussion instruments and thunder of electric guitars, and the times were suddenly gone when anyone could sing for his own pleasure, unaided by technological gadgets, the tunes heard on the radio, in discotheques or at concerts.
