Napínavý román (s vynikajícím doslovem Cyrila HÖSCHLA) nás zavádí do období po nástupu komunistů k moci v roce 1948. Příběh dvou kamarádů, mladých politických vězňů Bohdana Kosaře a Lukáše Ládra, z nichž první uprchne z uranového lágru v Jáchymově, zatímco druhý v něm dál zůstává. Příběh o odvaze, přátelství, statečnosti, věrnosti, ale také zbabělosti a zradě v „peckovsky“ typickém syrovém provedení.
„Šlo mi o to, vyjádřit svůj pocit z počátku padesátých let, kdy se doba opravdu chvěla horečkou.“ říká o románu jeho autor Karel Pecka v knize Jana Lukeše Hry doopravdy.
V roce 1968 byl podle románu připraven scénář k natočení filmu s Petrem Čepkem v hlavní roli. S ohledem na srpnové události a následný politický vývoj k jeho realizaci již bohužel nedošlo.
